Cynthia Petersen

Cynthia Petersen is the owner/manager of Petersen Law and QDROs LLC, concentrating her practice in assisting attorneys and parties with their divorce retirement plan divisions through consultation, drafting and litigation of retirement plan division issues and with drafting and entry of QDROs (Qualified Domestic Relations Orders), QILDROS (Qualified Illinois Domestic Relations Orders), Railroad Retirement, government and military pension orders for both attorneys and private parties. Cynthia has also testified as a qualified expert in the area of retirement plan divisions in domestic relations cases in Will County, Illinois. Prior to attending law school at Loyola University Chicago School of Law in Chicago, Illinois, Cynthia Petersen worked for a benefit consulting firm north of Chicago. As a customer representative, she answered retirement plan questions and helped plan participants with their pension and 401(k) plan needs. Cynthia’s training started with learning the ins and outs of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (“ERISA”). During her employment with the benefit consulting firm, Cynthia assisted the legal department in qualifying Qualified Domestic Relations Orders (“QDROs). Today, Cynthia uses that experience to the client’s advantage when negotiating or litigating retirement plan division issues. She loves to educate other attorneys in the area of retirement plan divisions.
