This course on Child Protection Court will be an overview for attorneys new to representing parents in Child Protection matters. The course will cover the basic 5 steps of a Child Protection case: temporary custody hearings, case management conferences/court family conferences, adjudications, dispositional hearings, and permanency hearings. This course will discuss the duties, roles and responsibilities of counseling situations involving representing parents in Child Protection matters. It will also discuss litigating in Child Protection court and assist in the better understanding of the parents' perspectives. The Participant will learn the following practice tips: how to understand the big picture of a Child Protection matter so that attorneys can be proactive at the onset of the case, in-order-to have a better outcome for their parent-respondent clients. The course will also cover the realities of Child Protection court for parents, the process of potential family reunification and the potential pitfalls for parents-respondents.
